The US Open Golf Tournament has a long history beginning with the first US Open’s Men’s Championship, which was held on a nine-hole course in Newport, Rhode Island on October 4, 1895. This tournament, which is now held annually in the month of June, once had a wide variety of both professional and amateur players entering and for many of the first years of its existence British golfers dominated the courses.
